VISIT TO A SMALL PLANET
5 videos, 4 experiment booths, props, objects & drawings.
Based on her memory of a 1950's Jerry Lewis film seen as a child, Starr attempts to recreate the entire film from memory. In her version, sitting behind a desk and following her own handwritten script, Starr is 'Kreton', the alien who can mind read, become invisible and communicate with animals. In a series of 'experiments' she attempts to gain Kreton's powers with varying degress of success. Dealing with the multiplicity of remembered 'truths' and the re-construction of reality, the work continues to explore ideas around authenticity and artifice as seen in Getting to Know You (1993) and The Nine Collections of the Seventh Museum (1994) .
