DICK DONKEYS DAWN (1997-8)

In 1997 Georgina Starr collaborated with artists Sean Dower and Oliver Hangl to produce a strange concoction of electronic music, performance and film. With Dower as Dick, Hangl as Donkey and Starr as Dawn they played and performed in Germany, Norway and Austria as Dick Donkeys Dawn.

From their first gig in an Oslo city rock venue they went on to play in Berlin's Buro Frederik performing behind mirrored glass — in a narcissistic reverie — the audience could see the band but they could only see themselves.

After a raucous year of performing and producing music and videos, they went their seperate ways in 1998.

The documentary The Story of Dick Donkeys Dawn was directed by Dower in 2004 and was shortlisted for the Ken Russell Short Film Award the same year. The legendary film maker Russell commented, "Dick Donkey's Dawn. A whirling dervish of a documentary, cut fast and full of strange, demented, decadent people. It was hilariously entertaining."
